Hawaii
Wow!
It's lights out for
Daylight Saving Time
Hawaii has never been a fan of Daylight Saving Time. So it doesn't have it.
Being so near the equater means there's hardly any real change in the amount of daylight during the days of the year. So messing with DST is just a waste of time -- get it?
Hawaii did mess with it briefly. In 1933, it was ordered by the legislature but was repealed less than a month later. Patriotism won out in World
War II when DST was known as Hawaiian War Time from 1942 to 1945.
Basically, Hawaii likes to go its own way. Back in the day, neighboring plantations kept their own time and made sure it was different from each other's time.
Today, Hawaii is in the Hawaii-Aleutian Time Zone, sharing it with part of Alaska's islands. Lots of folks just say Hawaii Standard Time. Good enough. And forget about DST.
